About
miceandme.com
Hello and welcome to
miceandme.com. We are Tina and Paul Landers and we run
this site. You can find out more about us here.
Having been a source of
computing help, guidance and advice to our family and
friends for many years, we thought it might be a fun
hobby to create a web site to share our experience with
anyone and everyone who might get some benefit from
it.
This site has been
designed to assist the more mature learner. Why? Because
that's where we come from. We're not technically inclined
and so we explain things in a non-technical way. Our
explanations tend to suit more mature people, like
us.
That's not to suggest
that a younger audience won't get any value from this
site. In short, if you get value from it we're happy and
we welcome you to enjoy the site.
This site is not meant
to be an instruction book. We prefer to provide a simple
explanation of how and why things work
the way they do and how they all fit together, so
that our readers can help
themselves.
We try to demystify
the often daunting world of Information
Technology and enable the everyday computer user the
pleasure of the wonderful experience the world of
computers can actually bring to their lives.
Keep it
Simple: One of our technical buddies (a
computer “Guru” by any definition) was looking through
this site and commented to us that he thought we had
over-simplified some of our explanations. We
pondered his comment for a while and came to the
conclusion that we actually agreed with him. In
discussing the comment we reminded ourselves why we had
created this site in the first place – for exactly that
reason – to simplify and demystify the computing
experience for people who were not really interested in
the technical complexities of the computer
world.
Some important things you should
know:
XP Friendly Zone: We
are not PC
or Windows XP bigots; however that is where our experience
and expertise lies, so most of this site is only applicable
to that space. If you are using one of the older
versions of Windows, we believe you would benefit by
upgrading to Windows XP. We have not upgraded to Windows
Vista as yet and we will not be considering upgrading
until mainstream business customers do (other than
that, upgrading to Vista means a whole new set of hardware
for us and we're not keen to do that right now).
Just the facts Ma’am, just the
facts: In
keeping things straightforward and simple, we often use
analogies and pictures. It’s how our minds work and it’s our
experience that most people appreciate explanations that
way. In doing so, our intention is to assist you to
understand the factual aspects of various explanations, not
any complex theories or technicalities behind
them.
Disclosure:
Around this site you will
see various advertisements. We have tried to keep them
clear so that they do not interfere with the site content.
Each advertisement that you click-on from this site earns us
a few cents for your visit to the advertising site.
Likewise, some of the products that we discuss and you
choose to try and then purchase may earn us some sort
of commission. While individually each of these doesn’t add
up to very much, the theory is that if everyone who gets any
value out of this site visits the advertisers or buys
anything through this site, it will all add up to an amount
that will help pay for the development, maintenance,
management and hosting of this site. Will we make a profit from
all of this? Mmm, nice thought, but we're not giving up our
day jobs any time in the foreseeable future.
So please, if you can and if it’s
appropriate, visit and support this site’s sponsors. By
doing so you are helping to support this site.
Speaking of support:
We cannot help you
fix anything that's broken or stopped working, so
please don’t ask us to try. To try and fix something that
isn’t working, we need to physically be there. Besides,
there are others far better at attempting that than we are.
Also, it’s not the intent of this site. The intent here is
to offer you the information, advice and tools to
prevent that situation, and thus help you have a
better experience with your computer.
My Lawyer made me do
it: The
content of this site is for your information only. It
represents our view/s at the time we published it to this
web site. Any advice, guidance or recommendations
that we make and you pursue should be done so
understanding your own risk and responsibilities. We do not
produce and therefore do not guarantee, either express or
implied, any product that we discuss or recommend. That
said, we do not and will not recommend any product that
we have not personally tried or had some direct experience
with. Like all information, advice and recommendations you
receive, you should not construe ours as being “entirely fit
for your purpose/s”. You should assess every
recommendation in the light of your own and your individual
situation.
Basically, in plain simple
English, we do not accept any responsibility for your use of
the information contained anywhere in this site and we do
not accept any responsibility for your use/misuse of any
products that we recommend.
To use an analogy, remember getting
your Drivers Licence? Well, do you hold your driving
instructor responsible for any or all mishaps you have had
in your car since then?
No? Well, the same simple and sane
logic applies here.
Yes? Sorry, you’re in the wrong
place.
Additionally, we reserve any and all
rights under copyright protection in relation to all
material/s published in this web site. (In other words, if
you want to re-use anything herein for commercial purposes,
please check with us first).
By using the information in this site
you are agreeing to the terms and conditions stated above.
If you don’t agree, please do not use any of the information
provided in this site.
We reserve all rights associated with
this site and its content.
PS. Isn’t it one of the more sorry
state of our litigous times that we've had to write, and
you've had to agree to, all of the above? We think it
is!
